LOCUST GROVE - Family, friends, and well-wishers gathered recently to celebrate a remarkable milestone as Colquitt King marked her 100th birthday with a special celebration at the Henry County Senior and Event Center in Locust Grove.
Approximately 300 guests attended the event, with loved ones traveling from across Georgia as well as Florida and New York to honor the beloved matriarch’s century of life, faith, and service.
Mrs. King was born and raised in Meansville, Georgia, the daughter of the late Elijah Colquitt and Annie Liza Lucas Colquitt. She later married her husband, Robert L. King Sr. Two weeks after her marriage, her parents and siblings relocated to Valdosta, Georgia. Today, Mrs. King is the only surviving child of Elijah and Annie Colquitt.
She is the proud mother of seven children—Marvin, Bobby, Mary, Mildred, Robert Jr., William, and Charles. Her family legacy also includes 14 grandchildren, along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who continue to carry forward her strong family traditions.
A lifelong member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Meansville, Mrs. King has devoted much of her life to service within her church and community. She faithfully served as the church secretary for 31 years and was an active participant in several ministries, including the Deaconess Ministry, the Mothers’ Ministry, and the Music Ministry.
Today, she holds the distinction of being the eldest member of the church, a role that reflects both her longevity and her deep-rooted commitment to her faith community.
Family members say Mrs. King’s life has been defined by faith, perseverance, and dedication to family and community. Her 100th birthday celebration not only honored her life’s journey but also highlighted the many lives she has touched along the way.
Mrs. King continues to be recognized as a treasured member of the Pike County community, where her legacy of service, love, and faith remains an inspiration to generations.
