WWII Veteran Celebrates 100th Birthday

ZEBULON - On 9 January 2025 at 1:00 p.m., the Pike County American Legion Post 197 along with staff and residents of Pike Manor helped celebrate Robert Walther’s 100th birthday. His actual birthday is 8 January 1925.

“Mr. Robert” as he is called, is a member of the Greatest Generation, WWII veteran, and honorary Post 197 Legionnaire residing at Pike Manor who does not have a family. As the residents were just finishing lunch, Legion members from Post 197 made a visit to the Pike Manor dining room where they honored Mr. Robert’s 100th birthday.

Mr. Robert was introduced with the reading of his military biography by Legionnaire Bryan Richardson. He was then presented with a personalized patriotic cupcake cake. Post Commander Paul Chatterton read and presented him with a special Post 197 birthday card, and a Commander’s American Legion Coin. He was also presented with an American Legion cap and a knitted red, white, and blue blanket.

Also present from Post 197 were Honor Guard Team members Steve Golias and Stefan Huckaby. The Pike Manor residents were able to partake in the enjoyment of the birthday cake and ice cream. Post 197 wishes Mr. Robert a 100th birthday and looks forward to celebrating his 101st birthday.
