Pike County 4-H Shotgun Team take 3rd at District

The Pike County 4-H S.A.F.E. Shotgun Team participated in a State Qualifying match held at the Griffin Gun Club on April 23. Thirteen counties participated in this event. There were 211 4-H participants.

All junior 4-H’ers (7th and 8th graders) had to bust 16 out of 25 targets thrown to qualify to go to state and all senior 4-H’ers (9th – 12th graders) had to bust 20 out of 25 targets thrown to go on to state contest. Pike County 4-H took three senior teams and one junior team.

Senior Team A placed 3rd in District and included Austin Albritton, Hunter Greene, Deven Miller, Matt Aderhold, Cody Lanier, Tyler House and Hunter Brannon. They also had the opportunity to compete in a doubles competition in which Deven Miller took Third Place and in the Coaches Doubles Division, Coach Jacob Banks took Second Place. Pike County had 18 out of 23 shooters to qualify to go on to state contest in May.

Junior 4-H’ers who competed were: Zeke Jackson, Dalton Leverett, Kyle Strader, Zachary Walker and Chase Whitley. Senior 4-H’ers who competed were: Jamie Aderhold, Matt Aderhold, Austin Albritton, Hunter Brannon, Brett Butler, Colby Cleghorn, Rebekah Duck, Hunter Greene, Gabrielle Gresham, Cameron House, Tyler House, Devin Jones, Cody Lanier, Deven Miller, Kayla Morris, Josh Peaden, Austin Pettis and Caleb Teachout. Coaches were Jacob Banks, Brice Crawford, James Peaden, Wanda Roberts and Wendy Sawyer.

Pike County 4-H Shotgun Team take 1st at State

On Saturday, May 7th 2011, Pike County 4-H S.A.F.E. Shotgun Team competed in the State Modified Trap Competition at Rock Eagle. Competing in this event were 57 counties consisting of 810 shooters.

Pike County took two senior teams (9th – 12th grade) and one junior team (7th and 8th grade). Senior Team A took First Place in State with a score of 123 out of a possible 125 and included Austin Albritton, Hunter Greene, Deven Miller, Matt Aderhold, Cody Lanier, Tyler House and Hunter Brannon.

They were tied for First with three other counties and the team chose Austin Albritton to compete in the doubles shoot off for the tie-breaker, where he captured the win.

This winning team received First Place medallions and a team trophy and will be awarded Master 4-H status at State Congress in July.
