County Manager Bill Sawyer advised by phone that a consensus was reached during this meeting over whether to take money out of the Magistrate Court budget and place it in Contingency to be used for Magistrate Court if needed at a later date. This was postponed from the June 8, 2011 budget meeting where Commissioner Carol Bass said that she would like to see the Deputy Magistrate Judge made into a part-time position in the upcoming budget and the difference and all fringe benefits moved to contingency. Pike County Commissioners gave a majority consensus to move $29,915.51 from the Magistrate Court budget and place it in Contingency with the understanding that this money has been set aside and can be moved back into the Magistrate Court budget if it is needed. (CM Sawyer advised the Commissioners in the 6.8.11 budget hearing that a vote would need to be taken in order to move the money from Contingency back to Magistrate Court if it is needed.) [Note from the Editor: The decision to move this money has no bearing on litigation involving Pike County Magistrate which is still ongoing.]

Citizens Jane Gaulding and Jimmy Bass addressed the Commissioners about various issues in this budget hearing.

A Budget Hearing is scheduled for June 22, 2011 at 6 p.m. with Final Adoption of the Budget on the third reading scheduled for June 28, 2011 at 5 p.m.>
