Revised 6-28-12

[Note from the Editor: I still don't think that it would have been a problem to schedule a special called meeting directly after the workshop so all business could have been taken care of today rather than splitting it up into two days. I appreciate using an abundance of precaution to notify the citizens and the media of a meeting but would like to see some thought given as to whether citizens can attend these meetings too--respect for people's time away from work, etc.]

[Note from the Editor: At the risk of sounding petty--because I am going on vacation on Friday--I am going to make the following the statement and suggestion for commissioners. Readers can take this for what it's worth coming from a reporter who has been to I don't know how many meetings over the past two months. I understand the need to have a special called meeting to discuss topics rather than constantly adding to the agenda because commissioners want to be completely open and above board and I appreciate that. However, I would like to encourage commissioners to announce additions in public as was done at the meeting last night and consider adding them to the agenda of another scheduled meeting rather than having two meetings in one day as we are doing tomorrow. I can't help but think of those who can get off for one meeting but there is no way that they can get off for two meetings in one day or even two meetings in two days. If the topics of discussion can be dissemminated in public through the media, I don't see any reason for an additional meeting. State requirements for publishing the agenda a week in advance are what they are and things sometimes come up. As long as big topics that should have been included on an agenda do not crop up on a regular basis, the public should not be critical of how our commissioners conduct business. Commissioners have been very open about the topics of discussion and I appreciate that as a member of the media and as a civil activist.]
