ZEBULON - There have been a lot of questions since word went out that the bridge at Flat Shoals was going to be closed. Pike County Times made a lot of phone calls to track down the reason behind the closure.

Pike County Board of Commissioners received confirmation that the bridge at Flat Shoals would close indefinitely at 5:00 p.m. yesterday. "While this bridge is considered a Meriwether County bridge, we want to ensure that Pike County citizens are properly notified of the closure," County Attorney/Manager Rob Morton. "Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated."

Pike County Times spoke with Gina L. Snider, the District Communications Officer for the Georgia Department of Transportation about the reason for the closure today.

"Upon a recent inspection, GDOT notified Meriwether County that the bridge would need to be closed. Repairs to the bridge will be necessary before it can be reopened and that information has been shared with Meriwether County," Snider said. "As a separate item, a bridge replacement project is being designed by GDOT and is currently in the Right of Way acquisition phase."
