BREAKING NEWS: County Wide Burn Ban Declared in Pike County

ZEBULON - The Pike County Fire Department and Pike County Emergency Management Agency have issued a county-wide burn ban until further notice.

"We have consulted with various state agencies about this, and they agree it’s the proper thing to do," said EMA Director Jim Totten. "Due to the extreme dry conditions and on-going drought, it has become very dangerous to have outdoor burning."

Director Totten also pointed out that there are limited resources available to help with a fire in Pike County since most state agencies have been pulled to South Georgia to deal with the wildfire there.

This is being done to protect property in Pike County.

"We have had several fires in the last couple of days that have been difficult to put out due to the conditions," Totten said. "We are hoping the rain this weekend will improve conditions, and we will reevaluate the ban as we get some rain. We continue to pray for those in South Georgia."
