BREAKING NEWS UDATED: Commissioners Decide on County Manager and the Ambulance Contract
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - After spending more than an hour in Executive Session tonight, Pike County Commissioners returned to Regular Session and made two motions.

The first was unanimous and named Interim County Manager Brandon Rogers as the only finalist for the position of county manager.

Former County Manager Ron Alexander resigned at the June 10, 2020 meeting, and Brandon Rogers was named as the Interim County Manager at a Special Called Meeting on Friday, June 12. There is a mandatory 14 day waiting period before he can officially be named as the county manager.

The second motion was also unanimous. It put the county's ambulance contract out to bid.

The 2020 contract with Grady EMS was approved on April 28, 2020 in a 4-1 vote with Commissioner James Jenkins opposed. This year's agreement was signed on May 13, 2020 and was supposed to provide two 24 hour ambulances for the county. Discussion has been ongoing between the county and Grady EMS for a month on whether the contract provided for two 24 hour ambulances or whether Grady could make a reduction to one 24 hour ambulance and one 12 hour ambulance.

[Note from the Editor on 7.29.20: I was advised by Interim County Manager Brandon Rogers that this request for bid proposals will go out this week--maybe even as early as tomorrow.]

[Note from the Editor on 7.30.20: Proposals are on the county website site and must be delivered or mailed in a sealed envelope to the offices of Pike County Board of Commissioners at PO Box 377, 311 Thomaston Street, Zebulon Georgia, 30295 by 5:00 p.m. August 10, 2020. The next county commission meeting is on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.]
