BREAKING NEWS: Family Loses Home to Fire Today

MOLENA - Hwy 18 toward Molena was closed to through traffic earlier today due to a house fire at 1386 Hwy 18. Red Cross and Pike County Fire Department are on the scene as well as Georgia State Patrol and the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner, according to Pike County Fire Department PIO Anita Neath, is former member of Molena Fire Department Amber Rowland. Amber said that the fire started as a chimney fire.

Firefighters fought this fire in freezing conditions today. There were icicles hanging from many places as they put the fire out. When the road was opened back up about 4 p.m. the Fire Department had contacted the Georgia Department of Transportation to get salt placed on the road because of the amount of water that was needed to be used in order to put this fire out.

The house was a total loss. There is a post on the Pike County Community Facebook Page where a neighbor is gathering items for the family. Click here to check out the Facebook post that gives information on clothing, shoe sizes, etc.

As of 7 p.m. tonight: They are looking for a laptop for the college student in this home. If you have one that you would like to donate or one that could possibly be sold to them for a good price, it would be a big help.

Thanks to all who helped with this fire and to all who are helping the family now.
