ZEBULON AND CONCORD - Pike County Fire Department personnel responded to two grass and woods fires Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Shortly before 8 p.m., Pike County Times was notified that there was a grass and woods fire at Hwy 19 south at Vickery Road. The roadway has been shut down, but it was reopened at the discretion of the Pike County Sheriff's Office. Around the same time, there is a second grass and woods fire at 722 Pedenville Road. Both fires were contained by 10:30 p.m.
Highway 19 and Vickery Road
At 6:11 pm personnel was dispatched to Highway 19 South at Vickery Road for a fire caused by a tree down on a power line which set the grass and woods on fire. Pike County personnel responded with mutual aid help from Northside Fire Department and Meansville Fire Department.
Approximately 5 acres burned and 1,000 gallons of water was used to contain the fire at Highway 19 South and Vickery Road.

Pedenville Road
Just minutes after the Highway 19 South call went out, a fire was dispatched at 722 Pedenville Road. PCFD personnel found a fully involved shed behind the house with fire spread to grass and woods.
Approximately 8 acres burned and 6,000 gallons were used to contain the fire at Pedenville Road. There is no official cause, however, after further investigation the origin appears to be in the shed.
Georgia Forestry was on scene at both locations to plow a break around the area as well as to set back fires to assist in extinguishment of fire.
Thanks from the Community
Jennifer Gellatly lives two houses down from the Pedenville fire. She said that the wind made the fire spread quickly but praised those fighting the fire. "The volunteer fire fighters were a blessing to me and my family keeping my little boy calm and showing him all their cool firefighter stuff. I am thankful we live in a community with so many big hearted people who care about their neighbors."
"Thank you to the firefighters along with the Forestry in containing that large fire on Pedenville Rd next to our beloved homeplace property and our irreplaceable 150 year old historic church," said Trisha Dabbs. "You folks that were out there last night saved our history."
