ZEBULON - Jamal Willis has turned in signatures in order to run as an Independent Candidate in the November election.
The deadline to submit signatures to the Registrar's Office was July 9, 2024. The Registrar's Office is going through each person who signed this petition and verifying them in a process that will result in a yes or no for this candidacy from the Registrar's Office.
671 verified, petition voters are required in order for Jamal Willis to run as an Independent candidate in the November election for Sheriff against Incumbent Republican Candidate Jimmy Thomas.
This number is equal to 5% of the total number of eligible voters in the 2020 election for Sheriff.
Pike County Times visited the Registrar's Office yesterday to see how the process is working since this is something new to me. There were several people working in the office to verify the names, and both the potential candidate and a member of the Pike County Republican Party were in the foyer of the office watching the process as it was being conducted.
Look for there to be a follow up from the Registrar's Office after the process is complete.
