ZEBULON - Public Works Director Todd Goolsby was terminated by the county manager with the approval of the Board of Commissioners after a vote was taken following Executive Session at the May 15, 2024 regular called County Commission meeting.
[UPDATE 6.12.24: This article has been updated with more information at: http://pikecountytimes.com/secondary/BREAKINGNEWSpublicworks6.12.24.html.]
After the meeting, Pike County Times asked the county attorney if anything further was going to be stated beyond the vote and was advised that no further comment will be given.
There was also an Executive Session Only meeting of the commissioners on Monday, May 4, that had no action taken. Pike County Times has not been able to get anything on the record as to whether the two meetings are connected to each other at this time but is asking questions and trying to obtain information as it is available.
Were Others Fired Too?
Pike County Times placed three open records requests on May 15, 2024 with regard to Public Works and any terminations that have taken place since that time.
County Clerk Angela Blount advised by email that there are no documents to provide to Pike County Times at this time.
"The documents contain materials of an investigation relating to the suspension or firing of, or a complaint against, a public officer or employee, which have been presented to the county or concluded for less than 10 days and are not required to be released. O.C.G.A. 50-18-72 (a)(8)," Blount advised by email.
Closing
Rumors are flying, but Pike County Times does not publish rumors.
All that can be reported at this time is that Goolsby has been terminated from his position as the Department Head at Public Works, there is a possibility that more than one person has been terminated at Public Works, and there is an ongoing investigation.
Pike County Times will continue to monitor and report on this sitution as information becomes available.
