ZEBULON - A wreck occurred on Hwy 41 at Shackleford Road this morning around 5:59 a.m. The accident is still under investigation, but Pike County Times spoke with Major David Neal from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office to obtain what information could be printed at this time.
Vehicle 1 was driven by Avery Henley, age 23 of Williamson. Henley was transported to Spalding Regional in critical condition.
Vehicle 2 was driven by Nathan Maynor, age 21 of Griffin. Maynor sustained minor injuries and left the scene of the accident with his family.
Vehicle 3 was driven by Jason Hall, age 24 of Milner. Hall sustained minor injuries and left the scene of the accident with his family.
Pike County Times was advised that the accident occurred as follows:
Vehicle 1 was traveling south on Hwy 41 and was attempting to make a left turn onto Shackelford Road.
Vehicle 2 was traveling north and caught on fire after making contact with Vehicle 1.
Vehicle 1 came to final rest in front of Vehicle 3, also going north, which clipped the rear of Vehicle 1.
Pike County Times was contacted by a member of the public about the possibility of a commercial truck with a trailer being parked in the middle the road at the time of the accident and asked whether the truck was a possible factor in the incident.
Pike County Times asked and was advised that the accident is still under investigation, but the truck does not appear to have been blocking the view for the driver.
However, Major Neal advised that the Pike County Sheriff’s Office will be working with community partners to keep an eye on this intersection in the future.
“We have reached out to other law enforcement entities that frequent this area like the Georgia State Patrol and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) (which enforces highway safety regarding commercial motor vehicles) and asked for their assistance in enforcing any applicable laws when they are in the area.”
