ZEBULON - Thank you to C. Bray for taking these photos the day after the fire. These photos show the destruction that remained after a fire that broke out in Barnesville in the late hours of Monday night / Tuesday morning along the historic stretch of buildings on Market Street.

Many from the Pike County Fire Department answered the call for mutual aid assistance at that fire. Those responding included: Chief Wilkerson, Asst. Chief Poss, FF Baker and Lt. Leonard, Jr. in Ladder 7, Battalion Chief Gilham, Captain Jackson, and SFF Owens in Engine 1, Captain Oliver in Pumper 8, FF Carraway in a Quick Response Vehicle as one of the shift personnel on call that night.

Mama D's and Goggans Florist were completely destroyed. Everything Beautiful, which is located next door to Goggans Florist, suffered significant damage though the firewall held firm. Other businesses in that area have smoke damage from a fire that burned hot and harsh until firefighters could get it under control. Many have had to relocate for now until insurance can come in and damages can be restored.

The community has rallied around those affected by the fire with love and support. There are even some businesses who opened their doors to allow those affected by smoke damage and loss of their storefront to operate in a different location until the storefronts can be rebuilt.

Small town community life is different, and it shows in many ways including hard times like this. Especially in hard times like this.
