ZEBULON - James Fowler is a Pike County resident who has had the privilege of bringing history to life over the years as he reenacts the life of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He has reenacted many a speech before students, history buffs, and the public at large.
On Tuesday, September 21 at 7 p.m Georgia Public Television will air the documentary “A President In Our Midst," which is based on the book “A President in Our Midst: Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Georgia” by Kaye Minchew.
This film won Best Long Form Documentary and People’s Choice at the Southern Film Festival in LaGrange on August 28, 2021, and it will be distributed to hundreds of schools and public libraries after this airing.
There is a hope that this documentary will bring FDR to life for those who watch it.
Fowler told Pike County Times that the highlight of filming this documentary in 2020 was getting to ride in a 1938 Packard convertible through Warm Springs. He was dressed as FDR with his hat and cigarette holder, and waved like FDR at two gentlemen walking down the sidewalk.
“Their jaws dropped for a few moments taking it all in,” he said. The 1938 Packard convertible was provided for the filming of the documentary courtesy of Taylor and Judy Merrill of LaGrange.
