Lost and Found Pets

PIKE COUNTY - Chairman of Friends of Pike County Animals, Inc. Don Bailey spoke during the 15 minutes prior to the Commission meeting and advised of a new way to united owners and lost pets.

"Pike County does not have an animal shelter and our community has been relying on good Samaritans for assistance," said Bailey. "In an effort to reunite pets and owners in a more timely manner, the Friends of Pike County Animals Humane Society Inc. and the Pike County Sheriffs Department have collaborated to provide assistance."

Bailey also advised that anyone who has a pet that is lost or found in Pike County is encouraged to post their info on the Friends of Pike County Animals' Facebook site and gave the following instructions for those posting information on the Facebook site:

Lost/Found; Breed (if known); male or female; identifying marks; wearing a collar? Area was lost/found (last seen); Point of contact (name and phone number), and a good picture of the lost/found pet (if unable to upload picture/information, please email the info to friendsofpikecountyanimals@hotmail.com and with your permission FPCA Inc. will upload the info to the Facebook site.

Please keep them posted if you are reunited with your pet or the owner claims the pet.

You should also contact the Pike County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) at 770-567-7298 to file a report, said Bailey. "The Pike Co. Sheriffs Dept creates a log report, maintains the file, and can access the information in the event the pet owner contacts the Sheriff's Department."

"It is our hope that these two actions (FPCAHS Facebook and the PCSD report) will provide a quicker response time for pet and owner reunification."
