ZEBULON - The Pike County Fire Department has put together emergency information packets for citizens to pick up, fill out, and place on their refrigerators or in a place where emergency personnel can easily pick it up to go to the hospital with a patient in an emergency situation.
The packet contains an information health form that lists the patient’s name, date of birth, blood type, and medical information including allergies to medications and other information that is important in an emergency situation. It contains emergency contact numbers and asks for a current medication list that is separate from the original form so the list can be updated without changing the entire form.
These emergency envelopes are part of the Medical Information Life Event Service (MILES) program from the Pike County Fire Department. Patient emergency information is placed in the envelope and hung on a refrigerator for easy access for emergency personnel.
These envelopes can be picked up at many places in Pike County.
Cornerstone Family Wellness in Concord has these packets.
Zebulon has several locations. Upson Physicians and the J. Joel Edwards Public Library have envelopes as well as the 24 hour fire station in Zebulon located by City Hall and the Pike County Tag Office.
Call your City Hall location and ask about these packets.
[Note from the Editor: I'll update this article with more locations since I have some evelopes and will pass them out in the community as well. If you need one -- or more for your business to hand out, ask me about it, I'll get what you need or put you in touch with someone at the Fire Department.]
The packets are free and easy way to help paramedics who are taking care of loved ones in an emergency situation. Thank you to Teri Totten and this fabulous crew of volunteers for making this happen for our community!
Reflective Address Signs
The Pike Volunteer Emergency Services Booster Organization (PVESBO) is also selling reflective address signs to Pike County citizens. Green signs are 6 inches by 18 inches with 4 inch reflective numbers on each side.
These signs will help emergency personnel to find your house or business quickly in the case of an emergency. Proceeds benefit all emergency services personnel with disaster assistance in the form of gatorade, water, and other necessary items.
To order, call 770-468-8633 for more information. All orders for reflective address signs must be made in writing.
