Our Caring Community Does It Again
By Guest Columnist Randy Martin

The Pike County Emergency Services (PCES) Fire Chief Mike Grant has seen the need of adding additional emergency support equipment to our fleet.

It is that extra “ARM” that Pike County Volunteer Fire Fighters often need/rely on for that vitally needed/required additional emergency support equipment. When required. This equipment is needed now.

The PCES has stocked a pull along trailer, which contains emergency equipment to support our fire fighters primarily at major structure fires. Frequently, these types of fires totally drain and exhaust our fire fighters. These types of fires often demand that our fire fighters give their maximum physical and mental abilities. Often, they are only seconds away from totally collapsing before they are pulled off the front line. Therefore, fire fighters frequently required immediate attention whenever they become over heated and majorly exhausted a the fire scene.

The drag along trailer is designed for this purpose. It will contain spare SCBA breathing cylinders, oxygen bottles, beds, chairs body cooling devices, and a tent to name a few of its contents. The trailer will provide this critical needed emergency support equipment.

However, this trailer and its stocked equipment didn’t just appear. It has become a reality due to the collective contributions. Individual and personal donations have come from an assortment of members in our Pike County Community. The following is a listing of these individuals and their businesses.

The trailer was a grant from the State of Georgia.

The auxiliary generator mounting brackets and support platform were donated and welded onto the trailer by Charles Jaquess. He owns Jaquess Welding and Fabrication in Williamson.

The beautifully painted Fire Engine Red Trailer was painted free of charge by Ron Snowden who is the owner of D&R Four Wheel Drive in Zebulon. Ron, a volunteer firefighter, also provided the paint free of charge.

The vehicle towing hitch assembly was donated by Zebulon Auto Parts, Inc. in Zebulon. The owner, Tom Beddington, also has Billy Payton on his staff. Billy donated the vehicle trailer hitch towing ball assembly for our towing truck. Billy is a volunteer firefighter.

The trailer hitch assembly was installed onto the Dodge Dakota pickup truck by David Harwell. David is the owner of Barnstormer’s Workshop in Williamson, Georgia.

The truck to trailer lighting system was donated and installed by Danny Hudson. Danny is a certified firefighter and first responder.

The trailer was lettered and decaled by INK’D in Zebulon. Chris Moerman appropriately placed the letters and decals at no cost to our Pike County taxpayers.

Yes, our Pike County community is definitely supporting our efforts and desire to provide “TO YOU” the maximum fire and safety support. A special “THANK YOU” to these individuals is well-founded.

Pike County Community: Please contact these individuals/companies “PERSONALLY” to see to it that they get a well-deserved “THANK YOU”.

I can assure you that our county and the volunteer firefighters will be safer because we have these types of assets in our county.

Click here to see how this trailer was used in training just last month. It now travels to fires in our county to ensure that our volunteer firefighters do not get overheated.
