Pike County Chamber of Commerce Brings Local History to Life!!

CONCORD - The Pike County Chamber of Commerce is continuing its efforts to celebrate and preserve the county’s rich heritage with its History Trolley Tour in Concord on Saturday, November 7th.

History is more than dates in a textbook or buildings that have stood for generations. It lives in the stories of the people who came before us, the communities they built, and the traditions they passed down. Every town has a story worth telling, and those stories deserve to be remembered.

Their initiative began last year in Zebulon and has since grown into a vision of bringing the history of every community throughout Pike County to life, one town at a time. Following this year’s tour in Concord, the Chamber hopes to keep expanding this tradition into other communities in the years ahead.

Under the leadership of Director Alex Maddox and Events Director Stefanie Forsyth, the project is made possible through the dedication of local volunteers who share a passion for their community and its history.

This year’s tour will feature local historian and storyteller John Strickland, who will share the people, places, and events that helped shape Concord. His knowledge and passion offer a unique opportunity to experience local history through the stories that cannot always be found in books.

Preserving these stories is about more than looking back. As generations pass, firsthand memories and personal accounts risk being lost. By capturing these stories and sharing them with younger generations, we help ensure that the history of our communities remains part of their future.

Each community in Pike County has its own identity, landmarks, and stories that contribute to the county’s larger history. From Zebulon to Concord and eventually throughout the county, the Chamber hopes to create an ongoing tradition that celebrates those differences while bringing the community together through a shared appreciation for its heritage.

The November 7th tour is more than a ride through Concord. It is an opportunity to discover something new about a familiar place, hear stories that deserve to be carried forward, and take part in preserving the legacy of our hometowns.

Tickets are $25 per person. Space is limited, and advance reservations are encouraged. To purchase tickets or schedule a trolley time, contact the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Because when we preserve our stories, we preserve a part of who we are. Every community has a history, every generation has a story, and every story deserves to be told.
