SCTC Announces Recent Accreditation for the Associate of Science in Nursing (RN)
and Practical Nursing (LPN) Programs

GRIFFIN - The Practical Nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing programs at Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) had their formal site visit from Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) in February 2021.

The Board of Commissioners granted initial accreditation to the Associate of Science in Nursing program and Practical Nursing program and scheduled the next evaluation visit for Spring 2026. Based on ACEN Policy #34 Candidacy for a Governing Organization/Nursing Program Seeking Initial Accreditation, the effective date for initial accreditation of the Associate of Science in Nursing program and Practical Nursing program is November 19, 2019.

The ACEN has been acknowledged as the leading authority for nursing education accreditation and has held United States Department of Education (USDE) and Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) recognition for decades. ACEN regularly reviews accredited programs to ensure the programs continue to meet standards and are adequately preparing students for the nursing field. This process required a self-study report submitted by the Nursing Division followed by a site visit.

Southern Crescent Technical College Dean of Allied Health and Paramedicine, Kimberly Register, expressed her excitement for the recent announcement, “I am inspired by the work of our nursing faculty and support staff and am very fortunate to work with such talented and committed colleagues who are all focused on our shared vision of changing the life of one to care for the lives of many. I am most proud that the accreditation peer evaluators identified our consistently high NCLEX pass rates as an area of strength for our programs. Receiving initial accreditation by ACEN is a monumental step in our commitment to providing quality, innovative education in nursing.”

Southern Crescent Technical College President, Dr. Alvetta Thomas, echoed Dean Register’s excitement and added, “I am extremely proud of the nursing team. They have consistently worked tirelessly to support our healthcare industry partners with highly-qualified nursing professionals. This accreditation adds a stamp of approval for the amazing work they already do.”
