ZEBULON - There will be a county-wide vote on whether or not to begin a new SPLOST when voters go to the polls on Tuesday. This is a continuation of the 2016 SPLOST which has repaved a lot of roads in the county.
A SPLOST is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax that must be used for the projects which it is designated. The May 24 SPLOST will be a continuation of the one cent sales tax that has been used to make improvements to roads around the county.
And the cities have completed their past roads projects so they are asking for funds to complete water and sewer infrastructure projects for their citizens who are residents of both the city and the county.

• Pedenville Road
• Eppinger Bridge Road
• Roberts Quarters Road
• Patton Road
• Kings Bridge Road
• Old Meansville Road
• Gresham Road
• Flat Shoals Road
• New Hope Road
• Shepherd Road
• Jonathan’s Roost Road
• Old Zebulon Road
• East Milner Road
• Chapel Hill Road
• Bottoms Road
• Howell Road

• The dirt part of Blanton Mill Road at a projected cost of $1,750,000

• The dirt part of McKinley Road at a projected cost of $968,000
• The dirt part of Shady Lane at a projected cost of $1,100,000
• Ditching for Chestnut Hill at a projected cost of $20,000
• Ditching for Hunter Road at a projected cost of $45,000
These projects come to a total of $10,123,000.

• Fossett Road from Roberts Quarters to Hwy 18 at a projected cost of $3,582,700
• Tanyard Road at a projected cost of $2,200,00 (possible CDBG project – see definition above)
• McCard Lake Road at a projected cost of $2,108,700
• 2nd District Road at a projected cost of $760,100 (County side only)
• Woodard at Starks including Starks at a projected cost of $1,103,300 (possible CDBG project)
• Turner Road at a projected cost of $4,000,000
• The paved side of McKinley Road at a projected cost of $1,815,000
These projects come to a total of $15,569,800.
Closing
Early voting will continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, May 20. (There will be NO voting on Monday.)
And election day will be on Tuesday, May 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
