ZEBULON - The City of Zebulon is proud to announce the official appointment of James Morgan as the new Interim Chief of Police for the Zebulon Police Department, effective January 27, 2025. Chief Morgan brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and dedication to public service in this esteemed role.
Mayor Joe Walter expressed his confidence in the new appointment, stating, “After a thorough interview process, I am pleased to name Mr. James Morgan as our interim Chief of Police. I also want to thank our current police force for their continued dedicated service and invaluable support during this transition."
The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) compiled a list of candidates to be considered for the position. Mayor Walter stated, “GACP’s assistance made the is process very smooth. The Council and I believed that bringing in an outside agency to assist in the selection process would provide someone with a different perspective and we are pleased with the results.”
Chief Morgan has dedicated his career to serving the public in several capacities within the police force. He has served over a total of 47 years in an assortment of roles, with many responsibilities.
As a member of the Georgia State Patrol, Chief Morgan served in varying capacities from a corporal to a lieutenant. He retired from the GSP as the Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Standards, which is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the Public Safety Department. This department ensures adherence to ethical standards, performance, and commitment to public service.
In 2012, he was named as one of the top 5 investigators in the United States, ranking 2nd. He also served as Jackson’s Chief of Police for eight and a half years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chief Morgan has a deep commitment to family. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. He also loves to watch NFL Football, especially the Atlanta Falcons.
Mayor Walter is confident that the residents and business owners will be pleased with the addition of Chief Morgan to the Department. “Chief Morgan’s experience and calm demeanor are what the City needs at this time and we will use his expertise to review our policies and procedures and structure the Department to meet the changing needs of policing in a growing community.”
