Rhonda McDougal Named 2014 Senior Center Site Director of the Year

ZEBULON - Rhonda McDougal, Director of the Allie Bankston Edwards Center for Seniors, was named the 2014 Senior Center Site Director of the Year by the Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging. The award was presented by Candace Hunnicutt, Wellness Coordinator for Three Rivers AAA, on December 11th at the ASA Powell Expo Center in Newnan, GA.

Ms. Hunnicutt stated that the areas/qualities considered for this award were participant involvement, compassion, dedication, organization, optimism, and charisma. There were a total of 15 directors considered for this award.

Participants at the center stated that they find Rhonda to be friendly, informative and a delight to be around. Under her leadership, they have seen their program grown in membership and become a family-type group. Ralph Jones, President of the Young at Heart club, stated that Rhonda “implants creative ideas into our program and inspires us to use our minds and bodies through trivia questions, puzzles, crafts, games and exercise. She schedules speakers to educate our group on nutrition, diabetes, legal concerns, medical issues, and other age related topics.”

When asked to tell about her favorite part of the job, Rhonda replied, “seeing the seniors engage with each other, participating in activities that I am told they never have experienced before, challenging themselves and each other, building stamina to be able to complete exercise routines, and having a member tell me how much they appreciate having a loving group to participate with and how it has enriched his/her life.

The Allie Bankston Edwards Center for Seniors operates under the Council on Aging, serving any Pike County resident aged 60.
