ZEBULON - Thirteen members were present at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on January 27, 2012. Pike County Times has endeavored to cover at least one meeting for each of the boards and authorities in Pike County over the past couple of years. This is the first Chamber of Commerce meeting that I have covered.
They began by discussing the County’s Annual Retreat. It was said that the Chamber wants to keep things working, get rid of what doesn’t work, and that they are not planning to do anything drastic unless something is broken.
They reviewed the December 2011 Financial Report and noted that they need a Treasurer. The group went through profits and losses and noted that the Chamber of Commerce is in the black. They also noted that there is an empty office in the building that can be rented.
There were 269 members in January of 1012 compared to 275 in January of 2011. Some businesses couldn’t afford to stay with the Chamber and some have gone under due to the economy. Beginning in February, there is a new option to help Chamber members pay their dues. Members can pay their dues on a monthly basis rather than paying the total at once.
Christy Hammons discussed upcoming events and advised members that 832 members used the online Business Directory in December. A photo of the eleven members who attended the Legislative Day at the Capitol is on the We Are Pike County page. Christy said that they met with our State Representative and Senator. Their goal is to keep Pike County on everyone’s minds. Some of the upcoming events include: the Joint IDA/Chamber meeting on February 2nd, the Star Student and Teacher Presentation on February 14th at 7 p.m. during the Board of Education meeting, ribbon cuttings for Crosspointe and Eternal Hope Hospice, Business to Business Networking meeting, and the Annual Job Shadow Day on March 6th.
The biggest event coming up is the 2nd Annual Economic Forecast Summit is coming up on March 27, 2012 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. It will be held at Life Springs Church. Panelists such as Brooke Lucas, Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development with the Georgia Department of Labor and Moore Hallmark, Southeast Executive Director with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will share their view of the current economy and what they see for the future.
