Pike County Sheriff's Office Makes Arrest After Pursuit

ZEBULON - On Tuesday night at approximately 11:49 p.m. a Pike County Deputy made a traffic stop on a Nissan Maxima that was travelling northbound on Highway 41 for speeding. Upon the Deputy approaching the vehicle, it quickly sped off initiating a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit entered Spalding County and onto Zebulon Road where the suspect vehicle attempted to negotiate a curve at a high speed at which time the driver lost control, left the roadway and overturned.

Three suspects were able to flee the area on foot but with the assistance of the Griffin Police Department, one of the passengers was located hiding nearby. Douglas Burden, 21 years of age, was taken into custody and was found to have an active warrant for his arrest for a Parole Violation. In addition he faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property after a handgun that had been reported stolen in Griffin was recovered from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Terry Evans, 29 years of age, from Griffin. Evans was able to elude capture immediately after this incident, however numerous warrants for his arrest have been obtained by the Pike County Sheriff's Office. His charges will include possession of firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing and eluding (felony), theft by receiving stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license and numerous other traffic violations.

Burden was treated for injuries sustained in the wreck and is currently housed in the Pike County Jail.
