GRIFFIN — The Griffin Choral Arts community chorus, under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Mulder, will present a concert entitled “To Thee, My Country” on Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 PM at the Griffin First Baptist Church (106 W. Taylor St).
Tickets are $10 general admission (all ages) at the door or in advance in Griffin at Artistic Flowers and Gifts and Safehouse Coffee Roasters; in Barnesville at Goggans Florist; in Zebulon at A Novel Experience bookstore; and in Thomaston at the TUAC Gallery.
Composers often show love for their homelands in their music by using texts that describe the natural features of the land or by incorporating folk melodies, rhythms, or other musical effects. This concert features works that demonstrate such musical love for country.
Lyra, an a cappella group of four professional singers from St. Petersburg, Russia, will be special guests at this final concert of GCA’s seventh season. This is a unique opportunity to hear a variety of works by famous Russian masters and little-known but remarkable Russian composers, as well as Russian folk songs.
Griffin Choral Arts is composed of 50 singers from all over the region. The mission of Griffin Choral Arts is to bring “the best choral music to the community.”
