Merry Christmas from Pike County Times
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - This Christmas has been very different for my family. We gathered today to celebrate Christmas as a family. There was still a ton of kids running around the house both inside and out. There were many adults who brought the kids... who were tearing around the house having the best of times playing with each other. But it was the first Christmas without my Grandfather... and he was sorely missed.

His sense of humor. His opening presents from friends and family from here and out west. And the interaction between the kids and their great-grandpa.

And yet, as we read the Christmas story from Isaiah and the New Testament passages, I was reminded that Christmas is more than presents and more than gathering with family. Yes, giving and receiving presents is fun and family is very important in all of our lives, but the true meaning of Christmas... hope, love, and peace... is there in the gift of a child over 2,000 years ago who still has the ability to impact our lives today.

So I ate two pieces of fudge in Grandpa's honor since he conveniently ignored all dietary rules around holidays! I spent time with my family and was grateful for another opportunity to celebrate the reason for this Christmas season. I pray that same hope, love, and peace for you and your family today.

Merry Christmas to all from Pike County Times! And here is a great big thank you to all who are serving in our military and are out on the roads this Christmas keeping us safe and responding to emergency calls. Your sacrifice and that of your family is very much appreciated!
