Butts, Lamar and Monroe Counties... Interstate 75 Resurfacing Project to Install Double Lane Closures Through Upcoming Weekends

BUTTS, LAMAR, AND MONROE COUNTIES - Crews are currently milling and resurfacing 13 miles of Interstate 75 in Butts. Lamar and Monroe Counties will be closing two lanes of traffic in both directions from the Georgia 36/Barnesville interchange (exit 201) to milepost 195 (just before the Johnstonville Road interchange at exit 193) through upcoming weekends starting Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, weather permitting. The closures are necessary to protect workers doing specialized concrete and asphalt work in the lanes, giving them space to complete their tasks efficiently.

The double lane closures will be in effect for three weekends which may or may not be consecutive (again, when the weather allows). At those times the closures will be in place throughout the entire weekends, from Friday at 9:00 p.m. to Monday at 6:00 a.m., day and night.

In previous weeks, single lane closures have been maintained around the project's work zones through weekend shifts. Drivers will continue to be notified of the closed lanes with signage and message boards posted in advance of the crews and their equipment. If traffic backs up at the work zones, special alerts will be posted on message boards through the region. Announcements will also be posted on the Georgia DOT - West Facebook and Twitter pages.

Engineers expect the project to be complete by the end of January, 2021.

There will be three weekends of double lane closures anticipated to start Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, from Fridays at 9:00 p.m. to Mondays at 6:00 a.m. (may or may not be consecutive, and weather permitting)

Entire Project: Interstate 75 from the Georgia 36/Barnesville interchange (exit 201) in Butts County to the Georgia 42/North Lee Street interchange (exit 188) in Monroe County, Georgia
Double lane closures: Interstate 75 from Georgia 36 interchange (exit 201) to milepost 195

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.
