County Signs Memorandum of Understanding with New County Manager
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - The Pike County Board of Commissioners and County Manager (CM) John Hanson signed a Memorandum of Understanding at last night’s county commission meeting. This document is the beginning of a formal contract arrangement that will be negotiated between both parties that will include, but not be limited to, the following terms.

The final contract will be for a three year period that will be contingent upon performance evaluations. “Specifically, the parties fully understand the Pike County shall not be obligated to a three (3) year contract in the event CM is not adequately performing the duties as county manager.”

CM Hanson will be paid a graduated salary package that starts at $72,000 for the fiscal year (FY) 2013-2014 based on a pro-rated share for the remaining months in the current budget. ($72,000 divided by twelve months times the nine months remaining in the current year.) FY 2014-2015 will increase to $76,000 and FY 2015-2016 will increase to $80,000.

The county manager will be entitled to a standard benefit package for health/dental insurance, three weeks of vacation (with the understanding that some of that vacation has already been scheduled for 2013), and one sick day per month.

CM Hanson shall be entitled to the use of a county vehicle as needed for county business with the understanding that the CM will drive his personal vehicle to and from work unless county business requires early morning, late night, or overnight attendance for county business.

The county manager will have the use of a county cell phone, smart phone, or PDA and he can choose whether or not to roll his existing retirement (or portions of it) into the Pike County plan.

CM Hanson attended the meeting of the Pike County Board of Commissioners last night and actively participated in conversations that took place around the table with commissioners during the meeting. His first official day of work will be Monday, September 30, 2013.
