Culvert to Be Replaced on Hagan's Mountain Road

ZEBULON - Pike County is working to be proactive with our roads and culverts. The next project on the list for repair by Pike County Public Works in replacing the culvert on Hagan’s Mountain Road on January 20, 2015.

Public Works will have signage in place to remind citizens of the culvert replacement prior to the event because detours will have to be taken in order to avoid the area where work is being done. This is the main culvert by the creek on this road.

County Manager John Hanson advised that the county is using a proactive approach with the replacement of this culvert so the weather does not determine the time table in which it will have to be repaired. This proactive approach is part of a plan that was discussed in the October Road Plan meeting.

Several culverts have already washed out in Pike County over the past year or so and he said that the underside around this culvert is beginning to deteriorate. Culverts that have washed out and needed repairs were out of commission for several weeks following the washouts.

The culvert has been ordered and is ready to go into the ground. Hanson advised that the intention is to have the road opened in the same day that it is opened up but the weather and other conditions may have bearing on that intention.

Citizens who live in the Hagan’s Mountain area should mark your calendars for January 20, 2015 and prepare to take a detour until the replacement of the culvert in your area is complete.
