Community Comes Out To Support Dana Cox
By Editor Becky Watts

BARNESVILLE - Many from Lamar and the surrounding communities came out to support Dana Cox in her fight against cancer. Two separate events were planned to help Dana pay for her medical expenses.

Felton Lewis planned a motorcycle ride for Dana that brought more than 40 motorcycles to Barnesville. Many others came out to buy lunch plates and listen to musical entertainment during the event. Dana and many from her family came out to the event that was held at the VFW Post 6542 in Barnesville.

Many also supported Dana by eating at Shane's Rib Shack on the following the Saturday with a portion from each meal being donated back to Dana and her family.

You can tell a lot about a community by the way that people come together in order support those who have a need. Dana Cox and her family were blessed by so many from Lamar and the surrounding communities. Thank you to all who planned and set up this event, all who participated in this event in any way, and all who supported Dana and her family by coming out to these events.

The following is a letter written by organizer Felton Lewis:

To whom it may concern,

I want to express my gratitude and thanks to all who helped out and participated in the ride for Dana Cox on August 9, 2014. Special thanks to Commander Junior Hamrick of VFW Post 6542 for the use of the facility, Jason Johnson and Terry (Mongo) Norman for helping to organize the ride, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, Captain David Knight, and Sgt. Mike Bailey for help in coordinating the law enforcement escort, Loose Change and the Dixie Pride Band for the entertainment during the event, and Lilla Baptist Church, friends and family for working at the event. Thank you to all of the bikers who showed up for this event as well as the community for coming out to support Dana Cox and her family. This event was a great success!

Thank you to Shane’s Rib Shack and everyone who came out to support Dana Cox and her family on August 16, 2014. A portion of the proceeds from each meal went back to Dana and her family. It does my heart good to see that our community really cares when there is a need.

Sincerely, Felton Lewis
