Public Invited to Dedication of L.Corp. JD Walker Memorial

ZEBULON - The Pike County Board of Education and the Pike County American Legion Post 197 will hold a dedication program Saturday September 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The program will be held at the Alternative School Building. In case of bad weather the program will be held in the gymnasium building. This will be for the dedication of a Memorial to fallen hero L.Corp. JD Walker and rededication of the Alternative School Building as the Pike County Memorial Annex Building.

JD Walker was a resident of Pike County and graduated from Pike County High School. JD joined the Marine Corps and was serving his second tour of duty when he was killed in action in Al Anbar, Iraq in 2007.

Representatives of the Pike County American Legion Post 197 will make a formal presentation of Memorial plaque for this school building to the Pike County Board of Education during the ceremony.

Major General James Kessler, USMC will be the Guest Speaker and will give the tribute for L.Corp. JD Walker during the ceremony. Prior to his retirement, Major General Kessler was assigned as Commander, Marine Corps Installations Command (ADC I&L Facilities and Service Division).

The Board of Education has decided to provide the Memorial Annex Building to be used as a general monument for all those in Pike County who give the ultimate sacrifice while serving our community. The intent is for the building to house memorials for all of our community’s fallen heroes.

The public is invited to attend this dedication, as a hero is remembered and honored, and Pike County receives a home for its memories.
