ZEBULON - The Third U.S. Congressional Seat currently held by Lynn Westmoreland will be up for re-election. It is for a two (2) year term of office. Rep. Westmoreland has announced his retirement. Drew Ferguson, Jim Pace, Mike Crane, Chip Flanagan, Richard Mix, Arnall "Rod" Thomas, and Samuel Anders ran on the Republican ticket in the May 24, 2016 race. On the Democratic ticket, Tamarkus Cook qualified. The Republican candidate will be decided in the May 24, 2016 election and that person will go on to run against Tamarkus Cook in November.
Drew Ferguson
West Point Mayor Drew Ferguson announced today that he will be a candidate for the United States Congress representing Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Washington is broken and as a small businessman I know that what our communities need from Congress is that they get out of the way and let us create jobs and economic opportunity for our citizens,” Ferguson said. “We are a conservative place, and I want to put conservative principles to work for the whole district like we have in West Point where we have cut taxes and utility rates while creating an economic development boom.”

Why I am Running for CongressI am running for Congress because I believe our nation is at a crossroads. We have experienced 8 years of a lawless administration, and it is time to send representatives to Washington who understand the principles our nation was founded on, and the role of government as laid out in our constitution. Too many people get elected and fall into the trap of a broken system. Detached from our Constitution, they are unmoored and tossed by a process that is based on control and coercion, instead of integrity and principle.
I also believe I have the experience needed to stand up for the conservative values of our district in Washington. I am the only candidate with a proven record of leading in the legislative arena. My lifetime as a small business owner and my significant legislative experience, matched with one of the most conservative voting records in the Senate gives me the strongest resume for the job at hand, the United States Congress. I have consistently led the fight to secure and strengthen our state and to make this the best place in the nation for quality economic growth. I have unwaveringly done this while protecting our quality of life.
The other candidates, while most likely well-intentioned, are certainly unproven in the actual field of battle. I have encountered many along the campaign trail who make all sorts of promises before their first election, or their jump to a legislative office, but ultimately fail to follow through because they were really unprepared for the job. When one is hiring for the big leagues, you don’t just take candidates at their words, you hire someone with a proven ability to stand tall under pressure and get quality results at the end of the day. When it comes to choosing our next Congressman, someone who should be a steward of our Constitution and our laws, I believe I am the candidate with the most relevant experience and consistent track record.
