Pike County Ghost Out

ZEBULON - These are photos from the 2013 Ghost Out that was held at Pike County High School on March 27, 2013. The dangers of drinking and driving came to life for students as Mid Georgia Ambulance worked with local agencies such as Zebulon Police Department, Pike County Sheriff's Office, Pike County Emergency Services, Pike County Coroner's Office, Emory Life Flight, Perkins Towing in Concord, Bare Metals in Griffin, D & R 4 Wheel Drive, and American Pie with this presentation.

In this year's presentation, a group of friends go off to Prom and stop at a party where they join in drinking before going home. On the way home, they collide with a family who was just a short way from home and didn't put their baby in a car seat. Several are injured. Some die including the child, who is taken away by Death in one part of the sequence. This elaborate sequence was put together by Mid Georgia Ambulance with cooperation from all entities listed above and also two people who posed as family members of the accident that were restrained from entering the accident scene.

After the outdoor scene, the drunk driver went into the assembly of students in handcuffs to show that drinking and driving leads to jail time as well as possible death of those with you and those who might come into contact with you on the road. The students with white faces were "ghosts" and were not allowed to talk to anyone throughout the school day.

Darrell Riggins, Operations Manager, Mid Georgia Ambulance Service Inc., said thank you especially to the Pike County Board of Education and School Superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan for allowing Mid Georgia to make this presentation to students. "If we touch one person out of 450 kids, it was worth it," he said.
