By Editor Becky Watts

BARNESVILLE - On Thursday, November 1, 2018 at approximately 12 p.m. a security officer at Gordon State College advised Gordon State College police officers that a student had seen a tall black male with a weapon on campus. The male was also reportedly wearing a Jason type Halloween mask.

According to the police report, three Gordon State police officers began searching the area where the person had reportedly been seen. A Gordon State police officer found a person matching this description (complete with a Jason type mask on the back of head) walking on campus. He made contact with the individual who obeyed commands and was placed under arrest with the assistance of a deputy from the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office who had responded to the call for assistance.

A 9 mm SCCY pistol was removed from the pants pocket of the suspect along with a large quantity of marijuana, and 21 year old Ontario Montre Robinson from Villa Rica was transported to the Lamar County Jail.

According to the booking sheet obtained from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Robinson was charged with Marijuana possession less than 1 ounce - misdemeanor, Theft by receiving stolen property – felony, Possession and carrying concealed weapon without a license – misdemeanor, and Carrying a weapon in school safety zone, school function or school property as license holder – misdemeanor, and possession and carrying concealed weapon without a license - misdemeanor.

A bond hearing was held in Magistrate Court on Friday, November 2, 2018. Bond was set at $14,000. As of Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. Robinson was still in custody.

Gordon State College put out information by Facebook that advised that the incident was under investigation and that the campus was secure. "...Please know that the safety and security of all of our students is of the utmost importance. We appreciate the vigilance of the residence hall security guard as well as the GSC Police Department, the Barnesville Police Department and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office..."

Students were also encouraged to speak to someone if they see anything out of the ordinary and to use the blue safety boxes around campus if they need assistance. The press release ended by advising that Gordon State College police officers are available by phone 24 hours a day/7 days a week by calling 678-359-5111.
