Griffin Choral Arts Announces 2014 – 2015 Season Concerts

GRIFFIN — Griffin Choral Arts, under the direction of Dr. Stephen J. Mulder, proudly announces the concert schedule for its eighth season, 2014–2015.

The season begins with “WORLD BELOVED: A BLUEGRASS MASS” at Griffin First United Methodist Church (1401 Maple Drive) on Thursday, October 16. Special guests Monroe Crossing from Minneapolis, MN, join us to present Carol Barnett’s The World Beloved, a work twice performed in Carnegie Hall, featuring both bluegrass stylings and exceptional choral writing. Additional songs both by Monroe Crossing and by the chorus will further celebrate American folk music traditions.

“FOLLOW THAT STAR” will be presented on Thursday, December 4, at Griffin First Baptist Church (106 W. Taylor Street). Christmas with Griffin Choral Arts is a community tradition. Join us for a choral holiday celebration accompanied by organ, Macon’s Barrister Brass, and percussion. Join your voice with the choir for familiar Christmas carols and enjoy the spirit of the season! This is typically a sell-out, so plan early!

Griffin Choral Arts continues the season with “MASTERWORKS: MOZART’S REQUIEM”, on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at The Griffin Auditorium (234 E. Taylor St). Performed with orchestra, this concert features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem Mass in d minor, one of Mozart’s most performed and popular but also mysterious works.

The final concert of the season, “CELTIC BLESSINGS,” will be presented on Thursday, May 7, at Griffin First Baptist Church. The season concludes with music inspired by Celtic lands and traditions. Choral classics, folk songs, and crossover repertoire will conclude our season with a celebration of this musical culture rich in Celtic soulfulness.

All concerts begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 general admission at the door or in advance in Griffin at Safehouse Coffee Roasters and Artistic Flowers and Gifts; in Barnesville at Goggans Florist; in Zebulon at A Novel Experience bookstore; and in Thomaston at the TUAC Gallery.

Griffin Choral Arts is composed of 50 singers from all over the region; many of the singers are music teachers at the elementary, middle, secondary, or college level. The mission of Griffin Choral Arts is to bring “the best choral music to the community.”
