Celebration Day and Benefit Ride for Briana Hudson

WILLIAMSON - Two years ago, Briana and her mom were in a very tragic car accident. Briana was paralyzed in an auto accident two years that claimed the lives of two others, and she is blessed to be alive. She has such determination and love for life and will not let this stop her!

Briana is now in a wheelchair and does not have a bedroom on the main floor of her home or a handicap bathroom. Sunshine on a Ranney Day has completed a home makeover, coverting their garage into Briana's very own bedroom and bathroom to make her life much easier.

There was a benefit ride for Briana and the new bedroom was revealed to Briana and her family on Sunday, November 10th. That day began with a benefit ride for Briana with the proceeds going to build a garage to keep her dry as she transitions from the car to her home. The ride began at Christ Chapel Community Church in Zebulon and wound through the countryside before coming a close at Briana's home in Williamson.

Briana and her family saw the handicapped accessible bedroom and bathroom for the first time on that Sunday. The community gathered around this family and celebrated with them as well. They entered the room as the Star Spangled Banner played. Many of the volunteers who had helped to clean out the garage and work to transform it into a bedroom and bathroom were there on that Sunday.

There were smiles and laughter as well as many ooh's and aah's as the community walked through the new addition to see the completion of this project. Rev. Jamie Patrick blessed the room and annointed the door frame of the new bedroom. Rev. Patrick was at the hospital the night of Briana's accident.

Sunshine on a Ranney Day is a 501(c)(3) non-profit approved organization that creates dream room makeovers for children with long-term illness. Their motto is: "We believe that every child needs their own special place to feel safe, comfortable and relaxed - a place where they can play and allow their imagination to be free." Through the help of volunteers and project manager Buddy Mays, this project came together beautifully for Briana! Click here to find out more about Sunshine on a Ranney Day.

Thank you to everyone who helped out on this project and came out to support Briana and her family on the day of the big room reveal! Seeing the love bestowed on this little girl and her family reminds me of why I am so thankful to call Pike County home.
