ZEBULON - Pike County has been blessed with people who want to give back to our community. Now our community has the opportunity pass that blessing back to two of our fire fighters.
Kevin Slone and Kevin Gilham have served as fire fighters in Pike and surrounding counties for a long time. Both have been diagnosed with serious illnesses that need help from the community.
Kevin Slone is in need of a living kidney donor. Kevin Gilham is in need of platelet donations as he is undergoing leukemia treatment and bone marrow transplantation.
Information about how to help each Kevin is included in their stories as well as a link at the bottom of the page so community members can send tax deductible donations to their family through our local fire fighter support organization.
Prayers for them and their families are greatly appreciated as well.
Kevin's Story
Kevin Slone is 39 years old, a husband, a father of two, a longtime firefighter, and a youth baseball coach. He is also in desperate need of a living kidney donor.
Kevin and his wife have been married for 14 years and are raising their two wonderful children, ages 15 and 7. For the past 10 years, Kevin has coached and helped coach recreational baseball, giving his time to children and families throughout the community.
He has also spent much of his adult life serving others as a firefighter. Kevin has served with Pike County Fire for 12 years, after previously serving 3 years with Lamar County Fire.
In July 2026, Kevin was diagnosed with Alport syndrome, a genetic disease that progressively damages the kidneys. His kidney disease has now reached the point that he needs a kidney transplant.
This disease has already touched Kevin's family deeply. His twin brother was diagnosed in 2024 and received a kidney transplant just three months ago.
Kevin and his brother have faced more loss than most people should have to endure. They lost their mother when they were only 6 years old and their father when they were 14. They grew up together, built families of their own, and kept moving forward.
Now Kevin is fighting for the chance to keep doing exactly that — to grow older with his wife, raise his children, coach more ballgames, serve his community, and simply be there for the people he loves.
We know that not everyone who sees this can be Kevin's donor.
But everyone can help us find the person who might be.
Somewhere, there may be a healthy person willing and able to become Kevin's living kidney donor. One share could be the share that reaches that person.
Kevin has spent years answering calls for people who needed help.
Now we're answering the call for Kevin.

It has offered a way for the community to help our two firefighters and their families as they walk this journey.If anyone wants to donate for Kevin Slone or Kevin Gillam, they can make a check out to "PVESBO" and mail it to 2227 Drew Allen Road, Williamson GA 30292.
Please indicate in the memo as to which Kevin it is for and the money will go directly to them with no transfer fee or deduction. Any checks that come in without a designation to Kevin without a last name will be split equally between these two families.
