J. Joel Edwards Library Receives a New Look

ZEBULON - Last week the J. Joel Edwards Public Library took advantage of some computer down time to upgrade the interior of the library. With the help of a core of volunteers from the Griffin Home Depot and several community helpers, the library now has a brighter outlook on the inside.

“With the walls, the carpet, the shelving, and the furniture all being different shades of blue,” says library manager Rosemary Bunn, “I felt like I was in the bottom of the swimming pool.”

Last year the library brightened the children’s area with some Hawaiian Pineapple, trimmed out in blue, purple, and green. This year, Home Depot of Griffin designed a color scheme for the adult side that would complement the color scheme without overwhelming the adult patrons. Library assistant Emily Evans adds, “In the coming weeks we hope to rearrange the whole north side of the library to include a computer island as well as an area especially designed for teens.”

Home Depot of Griffin graciously supplied volunteers and materials; assistant manager Angela Johnson estimated that this project required more than 24 gallons of Behr Premium Plus Ultra. The volunteers are Home Depot employees who give of their time without any monetary or other compensation.

The library staff are grateful to Home Depot and its employees who helped turn an overwhelming task into a fun project. The public is invited to view the finished project during the library’s regular business hours: MWF 10-5, TTh 10-7, and Saturday 10-3.

When discussing the paint scheme for the bathrooms, someone said green means go, but this incorporation of green from the front windows in the kids' section to the bathrooms brings the kids' section and the adult section together nicely!
