Children's Area of Library Gets a Brand New Look

ZEBULON - On Wednesday, March 19, four staff and ten volunteers joined forces to provide the children’s area of the J. Joel Edwards Public Library with a brand new look. (Photos above and below the article are courtesy of the J. Joel Edwards Public Library.)

“We’ve been wanting to brighten up the children’s area for quite a while,” said library manager Rosemary Bunn. “The whole staff chose colors, and our resident artist, Carrie Darden, designed the layout.”

Home Depot of Thomaston, led by Team Depot Captain Pamela Young, provided most of the supplies as well as four trained volunteers; Behr donated the primer-paint, and Wooster Paint Equipment donated the brushes. To the delight of all the volunteers, Tim’s Country Kitchen of Zebulon graciously provided an ample lunch.

As the workers began spreading Hawaiian Pineapple on the walls, across the room could be heard, “Oh, I LOVE this!”

Coincidentally, as the crew prepped the work area, Bunn received an email from Demco Interiors, a leading distributor of library furniture and supplies, expounding the importance of bright colors in children’s libraries to enhance learning. The sample photos looked much like what can be found in Pike County’s newly-designed children’s area.

“You can’t help but smile when you walk into the library and see the cheery colors,” said Library Assistant Emily Evans. “And the vibrant colors do much to make Shannon Hale’s wall mural really stand out.”

The staff and the Board of the J. Joel Edwards Public Library extend sincere gratitude to Home Depot, Behr, Tim’s Country Kitchen, and all the community volunteers to gave of their time and talents to create a cheerful, welcoming area for their patrons.

Manager Bunn hints that more exciting renovations are in store for the library and invites all to stop by and enjoy the view. Regular business hours are MWF 10-5, TTh 10-7, and Sat. 10-3.
