Secretary Kemp Announces Successful Delivery of Military and Overseas Ballots

ATLANTA - Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp is proud to announce that the election officials in each of the 159 counties in Georgia have worked diligently to ensure that all UOCAVA absentee ballot requests were fulfilled by the Saturday, September 20, 2014 deadline. For the upcoming November 4, 2014 General Election, Georgia has already issued over 1200 ballots to military and overseas civilians to Georgia citizens in over 30 countries.

Sixty percent of these UOCAVA ballots were issued by Electric Ballot Delivery (EBD). Georgia was a leader by creating the tools necessary to provide for EBD. EBD can cut the time in half for the UOCAVA voting process.

The Georgia UOCAVA voter can access their absentee ballot through My Voter Page (MVP). Their MVP can be also be accessed using the “GA Votes” app. Now, with the “GA Votes” mobile app, military and other UOCAVA voters can track their ballot from the time it is issued till it is cast at the county election office. Simply search for “GA Votes” in the app store.

Please remind your friends and loved ones working overseas or serving in the military that they have until October 31 to request a UOCAVA ballot.

Georgia election officials are proud to ensure that Military and Overseas citizens are able to cast a valid ballot, which is counted in the election, from anywhere in the world as easily as if they were at a polling place.

The Uniformed and Overseas Citizen Absentee Voting Act ("UOCAVA") was enacted by Congress in 1986. UOCAVA allows for any member of the United States Uniformed Services and merchant marine, family members of the military and merchant marine and any United States citizens residing outside the United States to request their absentee ballot to ensure they have the opportunity to vote while serving our country.

Among its key provisions, UOCAVA provides for an application called the Federal Post Card Application that qualified service members and overseas citizens can use to register to vote and request an absentee ballot simultaneously. Federal postcard application can be requested at www.fvap.gov.

It is easy for anyone serving in the military or their family members and citizens living abroad to request a UOCAVA Georgia absentee ballot by visiting the Secretary of State website at sos.ga.gov.

Brian Kemp has been Secretary of State since January 2010. Among the office’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting secure, accessible and fair elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders.
