THOMASTON - Fun 101.1 WTGA and resident Dave Piper were presented with the Masters Major Achievement award by the Golf Writer’s Association of America for forty years of Master’s coverage at this year’s Masters Tournament. The award was a plaque made from a tree that used to stand on the world famous Augusta National Golf Course.
“My special guests at the dinner at the Augusta Country Club were two past recipients of the award, Loran Smith and Phil Schaefer, who worked with the late Larry Munson of the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network,” said Piper. He also said that this year’s tournament was particularly pleasing because a Georgia Bulldog won for the second year in a row, Bubba Watson.
WTGA has reports on the air every hour during the Masters Tournament. Dave’s fondest memory of reporting during the Masters is from his first year of coverage when Tommy Aaron won the tournament. It was the first year that a Georgian won the Masters.
Dave Piper’s name will be added to a plaque with about thirty others who have also won this award. This plaque will forever memorialize his contribution to the Masters because it is permanently on display in the Augusta National Clubhouse.
Congratulations to Dave Piper and WTGA Fun 101.1 out of Thomaston! Tune into Fun 101.1 FM for local news and election coverage.
