Volunteering to Serve Others in this Christmas Season with Reconciliation House Inc.

YATESVILLE - Reconciliation House Inc. is partnering with the community to make a difference this Christmas. Reconciliation House is asking for volunteers to help with all stages of preparation to ensure many of our Monroe County residents have a full holiday meal on the table in their annual Christmas Dinner Campaign. This year’s goal is to deliver meals and fellowship with over 400 families.

You can help Reconciliation House Inc. serve in the community by making donations of ham, turkey and other meat canned goods, breads, desserts, and canned or bottled drinks. Other ways to help include miscellaneous donations like compartment or hinged food containers, plastic ware for eating the meal, napkins, and plastic Ziploc bags. And of course, monetary donations for tax deductible items are always welcome.

You can volunteer your time to help pray for families in need as well as volunteering to help provide this service in the community. Volunteer cooks are needed to help smoke, grill, fry, and bake the donated turkey and ham. Volunteers are needed to assist in cooking preparation, food storage, clean up, and route preparation. Drivers, delivery carriers, and encouragers are needed to deliver the 400 plus meals on Christmas Day. (Familiarity with Monroe County is a big plus!)

There is also a need for administrative volunteers to help distribute and collect Help Service Applications, help with delivery information and confirm callers, and receive donations.

Reconciliation House Inc. has been reaching out to the community for eleven years. The program has grown from serving eight community members in 2003 to 275 in 2013. "[We] have over 190 requests already this year," said Angela Johnson.

The Christmas Week of Service begins on Sunday, December 21,2014 when donations will begin coming in, food and utensil preparations will start, dinner package preparations will begin, and the public is asked to begin praying for this event. Monday, December 22 will be a continuation of food donations with the help of administrative volunteers on items listed above. Cooking the food will also begin on this day. Tuesday, December 23 will be the last day for food donations. Food will continue to be cooked and delivery routes will be set up on this day. Wednesday, December 24 will be the day when 400 plus meals are packaged and prepared for delivery the next day. Clean up teams will also be needed. Thursday, December 25 will be a time of encouragement and prayer for those who deliver the meals as well as those who receive them. Dinners will be delivered and families will be invited to a worship service.
