Questions Answered About November 1, 2024 School Bus Accident

CONCORD - According to a vehicle crash report obtained from the Georgia State Patrol, a school bus was traveling north on Concord Road, attempted to make a left turn into a private drive, and struck a tree with the left side of the bus.

The accident occurred on November 1, 2024 around 4:15 p.m. The school system called Middle Georgia Fleet Wrecker Service to pull the bus away from the tree.

When the investigating Trooper arrived at the scene, he was told that 12 children were on the bus at the time of the accident. They were released before the Trooper arrived.

Pike County Times asked for a statement from the school system which is as follows:

“As the driver of a bus on an afternoon route attempted to turn around in the drive of a church, the rear wheel of the bus dropped into a ditch. There were twelve students on the bus at the time, and those students were transferred to another bus and delivered home. Parents were contacted by the transportation director as well as the school principal regarding the incident and the well-being of all students.

The safety of our students is of utmost importance in all areas. As we do regularly and in response to an incident, we will review our protocols for safety and response. Drivers receive eight hours of training yearly in addition to the training they receive to gain licensure and training upon employment with Pike County Schools. We are proud to say that our fleet traveled 451,030 miles in the 2023-2024 school year without a driver-caused accident.”
