Hwy 85 in another county. Located directly by the school entrance/exit and the road is painted with the word "SCHOOL" and has prominent flashing lights. Everyone slowed down going through that location during the school time.

Hill Street by Crescent School in Griffin. This is not on the same street as the school and did not always have flashing lights but has them now. This picture as taken in 2024.

South McDonough Road at Rehoboth Middle School in Spalding County. The school entrance/exit is on an adjoining road, and the school cannot even be seen from this location. A Blink LED sign has been added, but is that visible compared to an actual blinking light like the other picture? Look below at the speed limit sign to make a guess.

Rep. Dale Washburn Introduces the School Zone Camera Ban Bill

ATLANTA – State Representative Dale Washburn (R-Macon) recently introduced House Bill 225, which would ban school zone speed cameras. His legislation would repeal House Bill 978, which passed in 2018 and allowed for the use of cameras in school zones.

“It is time to do the right thing and ban these cameras,” said Rep. Washburn. “While these cameras may have originally been enacted with good intent, the results have shown they do not make school zones any safer. They do not enhance public safety. Instead, they have created an avenue for local governments and out-of-state companies to generate millions of dollars at the expense of everyday Georgians."

"We gave these cameras a chance, and the data has shown they do not do their job," he said. "I am grateful to my colleagues in the House who have co-sponsored this legislation, with 100 representatives supporting it. That is more than half of the members of the House.”

The school zone cameras, implemented under HB 978, were originally designed to monitor traffic in school zones. HB 225 would repeal this legislation and prohibit the use of these cameras in school zones.

Representative Dale Washburn represents the citizens of District 144, which includes Jasper County, as well as portions of Bibb, Jones, Monroe and Putnam counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, Banks & Banking, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Higher Education, Public & Community Health and Ways & Means committees.
