Snowmaggeddon 2025
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - Pike County got hit with a couple of inches of snow, and everything pretty much shut down. It was pretty at first, but the ice came as the snow started melting and the roads began to ice up overnight.

While the Georgia Department of Transportation was out preparing the roads for ice and snow, Pike County Public Works made preparations as well.

Director Chris Goodman advised that Public Works that they got most of their work done before the roads got real bad so they wouldn't have to be on the roads any more than they absolutely had to be.

"We put sand out on all the bridges in the county Tuesday morning, and we sanded all the parking lots and entrances to the fire stations and ambulance service pads so that emergency vehicles could get in and out," he said.

Major David Neal of the Pike County Sheriff's Office advised that there were five wrecks from about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21 through 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22. Mostly storm related. He advised that there were no trees or power line down calls.

There have been five wrecks since noon yesterday until about 3:30 p.m. today including the wreck with the Jeep shown above. That wreck caused 128 Southern Rivers Energy customers to be without power as the power pole was replaced.

There were no transports to medical facilities from these wrecks.

Pike County Schools are closed again tomorrow because of the condition of many of our roads. If you're out and about, take it slow and watch for patches of ice.
