American Cancer Society Relay for Life Survivor’s Dinner
By Guest Columnist Renee Andrews

ZEBULON - Relay for Life 2012 is just around the corner. Mark Andrews, cancer survivor, shared, “As we enter the month of May I look forward to the culminating event of our year-long efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society. Coming together as a community to celebrate survivors and caregivers and to remember those who lost their fight with cancer is a very moving experience. While there is sadness in remembering, there is also joy in celebrating our victories against this disease. With the help of the money raised for Relay for Life, 350 more lives are saved each day. I am one of those lives saved!”

“Along with raising money, an important part of the Relay is celebrating the Cancer Survivors in our community, as well as the devoted individuals who care for them,” stated Rebecca Rolling of Pike County Farm Bureau. Pike County Farm Bureau is the sponsor of this year’s Survivor Dinner and is requesting donations of homemade desserts to share with our Survivors. If you are able to make a donation, please contact Rebecca Rolling. The Survivor dinner is hosted by Christ Chapel Community Church on Sullivan Road and will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 6:00 pm. Our speakers will be Harleigh Sohler, Pike County High School student and Rebecca Anthony of Amedisys, a home health and hospice care company.

All Survivors and Caregivers are asked to contact Ms. Rolling at (770) 567-3431 or go by the Farm Bureau offices to assist us in updating our contact information. If you are aware of anyone who has lost their battle with cancer in the past year, please contact her with this information as well.

Relay for Life of Pike County will be held Friday, May 18th, 2012, at the track in front of Pike County Primary School. Hundreds of our neighbors will be walking, dancing, playing games, listening to music and having a great time in support of the American Cancer Society. To date, 21 teams have been formed, 200 individuals have committed to walk and over $17,000 has been raised in support of this cause that provides so much for so many.

If you or someone you know has been touched by cancer, we invite you to become a part of Relay for Life. You can contact Angel Stowers, Relay for Life of Pike County co-chair, for volunteer opportunities or to make a donation at (770) 713-1579 or visit us online at www.cancer.org and type in your zip code in the “find an event” box or go directly to our event page by clicking here.

Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
