ZEBULON - Pike County Pirate Baseball honored the Late Dr. Jim Turpin in Tuesday night's home game. Michael Moody read Dr. Turpin's legacy aloud in preparation for the first pitch.
Dr. Turpin's wife Judy, his son Shane, and grandson Andrew were at the game to honor the long-time legacy of their loved one. Pirate fans showed their appreciation for years of dedication, love of this county, and love of Pirate baseball.
Dr. Turpin moved his family to Pike County in 1978 and served as Superintendent of Schools for 16 years. Not only did Dr. Turpin serve 38 years as a coach, teacher, principal, and superintendent, but over the decades he is estimated to have attended over 700 Pirate baseball games.
Michael Moody told the fans that, "He obviously loved his family and Pirate baseball and to honor his legacy here at the Jack, his grandson Andrew will throw out the first pitch."
Andrew attends Pike Middle School and runs track and cross country and plays rec basketball. Andrew recently won 1st place for Pike Middle in the 3,200 meter (2 mile) race with a time 12:34.
Moody ended by asking fans to show their appreciation to the Turpin family "on behalf of the generations of Pirates Dr. Turpin supported."
May we all leave a legacy that is told in our love and dedication like that of Dr. Turpin and Pike County Pirate Baseball!
