The concept of the home ignition zone was developed by USDA Forest Service in the late 1990s, following some breakthrough experimental research into how homes ignite due to the effects of radiant heat. The Rangers at your local Georgia Forestry Commission office will be glad to assist you with making your home safe from wildfire. GFC Rangers will be conducting home inspections for homeowners in some of our more "fire prone" or high hazard areas in the coming weeks and months.
