WILLIAMSON - Williamson Library, Educational, & Arts Facility (LEAF) has always been more than just a library. And, after a short time that was necessary to find librarians who can help with this goal, two new librarians have jumped into their jobs with a listening ear for their community and creative minds to work with the community to continue the work that was begun to make this library a centerpiece in the Williamson community.
Williamson LEAF has been a place where pre-school children could come and hang out for Toddler Time. It was a place where homeschool, public school, and college students could come in and study. It was a place where people with no internet connection could come and use the internet to search for a job or check their email.
Pike County Time went to the Williamson L.E.A.F. on the first week that it was reopened to meet the new librarians, Sean and Beverly. They have been busy working on the library since they stepped their feet into the door!
Meet the Librarians
Sean is retired from corporate America from 2017 and has worked in a variety of jobs over the years including working supply chain, logistics, transportation, and in the chemical industry. He has owned a used car dealership, worked with rental properties, been a professional DJ, and owned a production company. He even spent 10 years as a radio personality!
“I’m really looking forward to helping you with whatever you need,” Sean said. “My motto is simple: ‘If I don’t know the answer, I’ll help you find it.’”
Beverly retired from 30 years of teaching in Fayette and Clayton counties and moved to Williamson in April. “It’s been a fulfilling journey, and now I’m ready to dive into new adventures,” she said.
Beverly earned her teaching degree from Georgia State University, followed by a Masters and Specialist degree from the University of Georgia, and later completed my doctorate at Argosy University. She is also a proud mother of four and a grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren.
“I'm truly looking forward to continuing the great programs already in place with Williamson LEAF, as well as starting new ones to serve this amazing community,” Beverly said.
When the jobs to work in the Williamson LEAF Library were posted, Sean and Beverly each saw an opportunity to be a part of the community. And now that they are working together and interacting with the community at the library, they see an opportunity for this little library to be more than just a library.
They are excited to be a part of what they would like to see become the center of the community with homeschool and kids programs as well as programs for adults and the elderly. What do you need in the community is a question that is being asked as they work and interact with the public.
What’s New?
Some of the work that has been completed includes a transformation of the children’s section at the Williamson LEAF Library. A recent post on Facebook tells that “It’s bursting with charm and fun!”
There are friendly jack-o’-lanterns and festive Halloween decorations that instantly put you in the mood for reading something tied to the season with stuff animals perched on the shelves and reading bins that make it easy for kids to grab their favorite books.
Picture books are front and center just waiting for children to come in and have a seat at the small table and chairs that are perfect for kids wanting to read or color. It is organized for a short or long time to be spent in a friendly community hangout.
“We want people to feel like they can come in here and ask anything,” Sean said. “If we don’t know it, we’ll find the answer!”
Haven’t been by the Williamson LEAF Library in a while? What was it that Dr. Seuss said…"You're off to great places, today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so... get on your way!"
